I believe that teacher wikis are great resources because it can provide opportunities for students to have additional hands on experiences inside and outside of the classroom. Cummings, Brown, and Sayers believes that “technology can play a significant role in promoting literacy among students and particularly among low income and minority students (2007). Wikis can also promote literacy because it can address many types of learners with several types of experiences where students can be productive, have fun, and most importantly take ownership in their learning. In addition, students can also communicate with their teacher and also use resources that are recommended a by the teacher. Students no longer will have to use the excuse that they misplaced their homework because they can get everything that they need online. Wikis can even be a valuable resource that can allow a teacher to provide additional resources for parents. Not only will students feel motivated to learn but parents as well. Utilizing Wikis, parents can help their child with homework because extra resources and tools can be provided for students to also learn with their families (Cumming, Brown, and Sayers, 2007). Nevertheless, teacher Wikis are like a dream come true because they allow a teacher to continue to be present during after school hours and can also serve as a link to help parents provide aid to their children academically (through resources provided on the Wikis). We must provide educational opportunities that help “students engage in learning literacy development…” which will help provide support for school based planning for change (Cumming, Brown, and Sayers, 2007).
